A very elegant pagoda-top longcase clock by James Gibb, Stockton. England c.a. 1770.
8-day movement with anchor escapement and rack hour striking on a bell. Dial with second-hand, date and moonphase. Very elaborate gilt bronze spandrels to the corners, the engraved silvered chapter ring with a foliate engraved centre. The moon-disc, as well as well as it's surround,are silvered. The moon-disc also has blue enamel decoration. The case is made of a finely grained, light-colored mahogany. The top has a pagoda shape, crowned with three wooden pinacles and fine meander carving around the arch,as well as small Chinese-inspired carved panels. Fluted colums on the middle part- and top corners, top colums with brass capitals. Height 2,53 m.
