A square horizontal gilt brass table clock, signed Albrecht à Berlin, circa 1700.

A so-called ‘Horizontal Tischuhr’ or table clock, four corner ornaments with caryatids and four gilded bronze relief panels decorating the sides with Biblical scenes. Religious imagery belonged to daily life in the 17th century. One of the panels illustrates The Resurrection of Christ, here in the presence of Thomas and other disciples. Thomas' disbelief was a popular subject in the Baroque. Painters such as Caravaggio and Rubens painted the theme and are partly indebted to the popularity and status of the visual language. On another panel you can see four figures. Two women form a couple, one of whom carries a wine jug. Sitting on a bench a figure is surrounded by sheep in the meadow. Teachingly he raises his hand to the person opposite him. The clock movement has a 30-hour verge escapement, with an alarm mechanism on a bell. Dial with Roman chaptering, single hand, alarm disk in the middle. Small flower engraving on the four corners. The Berlin clockmaker David Nicolaus Albrecht worked between ca 1680 and 1720. His signature can be found on the back plate, beautifully detailed interior. Dimensions  HxWxD 8x10,5x10,5 cm. Price € 12.500,--

Vier hoekornamenten met kariatiden. Vuurvergulde bronzen kast met reliëfpanelen die de zijkanten sieren met Bijbelse taferelen. Religieuze beeldtaal behoorde tot het dagelijks leven in de 17de eeuw. Een van de panelen illustreert de Verrijzenis van Christus, hier in aanwezigheid van Thomas en andere discipelen. Het ongeloof van Thomas was een populair onderwerp in de barok. Schilders als Caravaggio en Rubens schilderden het thema en zijn mede schatplichtig aan de populariteit van de beeldtaal. Op een ander paneel staan vier figuren. Twee vrouwen vormen een koppel waarvan één een wijnkruik draagt. Op een bank gezeten is een figuur omgeven door schapen in de weide . Hij steekt onderwijzend de hand naar de persoon tegenover hem.  De klok heeft een 30 uurs spillengang uurwerk met wekker op een bel. Wijzerplaat met Romeinse cijferring, één wijzer, wekkerschijf in het midden. Een kleine bloemgravering op de vier hoeken. De Berlijnse klokkenmaker David Nicolaus Albrecht was werkzaam tussen ca 1680 tot 1720. Zijn signering is te vinden op de achterplatine,  prachtig uitgewerkt binnenwerk.
