Description: A superb French Louis XVI lyre clock, made c. 1775. The clock is set on a white marble base, richly embellished by ormolu ornaments of various shapes. The clock frame itself is profusely pierced and richly decorated, surmounting in an oriental figure with parasol; the movement is at the end of a gridiron compensation pendulum with knife-edge suspension. The skeletonised dial has an enamel chapter ring set in ormolu bezels. The time is indicated by pierced ormolu hands and a blued steel sweep seconds hand while the date is also indicated by a blued steel central hand. The week-going movement is driven by springs in spring barrels, has pin-wheel escapement on the backplate while countwheel-regulated striking train indicates the hours fully and the half hours by one stroke on a bell. The date is moved forward by the striking work. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The maker: sined: BREANT A PARIS ___________________________________________________________________________ Size in cm; Height: 65 cm.
