c.1850 Miniature Japanese Pillar Clock. A good quality Edo period Japanese miniature pillar timepiece with a drawer to hold the winding key. The one-day brass movement has an engraved skeletonized rotating dial, a verge escapement regulated by a spring controled balance wheel and has finely turned decorative corner and movement posts, wheelwork and arbors. The steel hand remains in a fixt position. The scale has finely engraved 'hours' and shows day and date. It is exceedingly rare to find such a wonderfully preserved example in a diminutive size.
