THOMAS BOWEN, LONDON.A MAHOGANY CASED WALL CLOCK WITH ENGRAVED SILVERED DIAL AND VERGE ESCAPEMENT.CIRCA 1795.
The attractive mahogany case in the style of a salt box has a long side door and a door to the bottom. The glazed opening bezel is also mahogany.
The 15" silvered brass dial is engraved with Roman numerals and Arabic five minutes on the outer edge.
The dial is engraved Thomas Bowen, London and the blued steel hands have heart shaped pointers which are delicately fretted. The eight day gut fusee movement has long tapered plates and verge and crown wheel escapement.

Thomas Bowen is recorded as being apprenticed to Benjamin Crook, London on 11th October 1784 for seven years. He is known to have worked from Charing Cross and Half Moon Street. He was admitted to the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1796 until 1818.
