A late 18th Century French virgule in a fine large pearl set gold and enamel case made for the Chinese market. Keywind gilt bar movement of unusual design with engraved suspended going barrel. Engrave sector cock and bridges, polished steel regulator. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Virgule escapement, brass escape wheel. Fine convex white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, gold arrow hands. Large pearl set gold case the back decorated with a central butterfly within a border in polychrome champleve enamel, the translucent dark blue enamel over an engine turned ground. Wound and set through the signed gilt metal cuvette, the apertures marked in English script.
