Two identical Emppire ormolu clocks of eight-day duration, c. 1800 The gilt cast brass cases are surmounted by a bowl with flames and butterfly. The rectangular bases, embellished on the front with fine ormolu castings, stand on turned feet. The roman and Arabic enamel dails above draped curtains are set in chased bezels. Butterflies sit on the sides, seemingly attrackted by the flames (butterfly is symbol of transformation ond beauty on the one hand and on the other of transitoriness and joy) The time is indicated by gild brass hands typical for the period. The eight-day movements have anchor escapemants with silk-suspended pendulums, rise-and-fall regulation and half-hour striking trains on bells. Dimensions:HxWxD 34.5 x 23.5 x 11.5 cm
