Miniature brass skeleton clock with glass dome, in the James Condliff style with a special escapement. Circa 1830-40.
The clockwork with fusee and chain is mounted in a gilded frame. Exceptional is the escapement with a helical spring. The helical spring is a mechanical device which is typically used to store energy and subsequently release it. Also special is the calibration option of the balance wheel.  The movements of the helical spring are visible at the foot of the clock. It has maintaining power and a lever escapement, invented by Thomas Mudge around 1755, Thomas Mudge (1715-1794) was a famous clockmaker and was appointed clockmaker to the King George III in 1776.This skeleton lock has an 8-day movement and is signed by the retailer Buynan & Gardner in Manchester.
The clock is acquired from the former collection of Emile Bernheim, auctioned 22 and 23 october 2002 lot 268. HxWxD 17x12x8 cm (without glass dome). Price € 12.500, -

Miniatuur messing skeletklok  onder galzen stolp, in de James Condliff stijl met een bijzonder echappement. Circa 1830-40.
Het uurwerk met snek en ketting is in een verguld frame gemonteerd.  Opvallend is het echappement met een helical spring. De spiraalvormige veer zorgt  ervoor dat energie wordt opgeslagen om vervolgens vrij te geven. Tevens opmerkelijk is de kalibratie mogelijkheid  van het balanswiel. De beweging van de helical spring is zichtbaar op de voet van de klok.  Het heeft maintaining power en een lever escapement, uitgevonden door Thomas Mudge rond 1755, Thomas Mudge (1715-1794) was een befaamd klokkenmaker en was benoemd tot clockmaker to the King George III in 1776. De klok heeft een 8 daags uurwerk en is gesigneerd door de verkoper Buynan & Gardner in Manchester.
