A very fine and rare small sized Louis XIV Boulle quarter striking bracket clock, signed on a white enamel plaque Vitrolle à Paris which is mounted on the front of the dial. The clock movement is also signed Vitrolles a Paris. Paris, date circa 1700 Height 33,5 cm, Width 21 cm, Depth is 10 cm. The movement of 8 day duration with verge escapement and silk thread suspension, driven by three spring barrels for the going quarter strike and the hour strike the winding holes are visible at the front of the dial. The dial is gilt bronze with scrolling decoration, the raised outer part of the dial is marked with numerals 1 to 60 depicting the minutes and the hours are white enamel cartouches marked with blue Roman numerals 1 to 12. The fine minute and hour hands are made of steel and are blued. Above 12 o’clock is the clock regulation marked with numerals 2 to 8 with a very small winding square for the adjustment. The exceptional small sized case is in very good condition and of the highest quality depicting scrolling and floral decoration, the case has gilt bronze mounts and feet. The carcase or the clock is oak which is a real sign of quality. Vitrolle or Vitrolles Jean Mende was recorded as working in Paris from 1660 until 1708.
