No. 053. Important English First Period Lantern Clock, signed Peter Closon Neare Holborne Bridge Fecit, circa 1630, high 43 cm. A very interesting antique lantern by Peter Closon who is one of the earliest and most prolific of all lantern clock makers. The brass lantern case is dominated by an engraved dial with Roman chapter ring. The dial is finely engraved with leaves and flowers. Single iron hour hand and engraved brass Roman alarm disc. 30-hour iron and brass movement with balance escapement, alarm and countwheel striking. The clock is professionally reconverted to balance wheel. Front fret is marked Peter Closon Nerhoborne Bridge Fecit. The clock is in an excellent and authentic condition. Dimensions HXWXD 43x19x15 cm. Price on request. Peter Closon is a highly regarded clockmaker who worked at Holbourne Bridge, to the west of the City of London. He is recorded as having subscibed to the incorporation of the Clockmakers Company in 1630. Produce clocks until circa 1660. Zeer interessante antieke lantaarn van Peter Closon, die een van de vroegste en vooraanstaande lantaarn - klokkenmaker was. De messing lantaarn valt op door de mooi gegraveerde wijzerplaat met Romeinse aanduiding van de uren. De wijzerplaat is fijn gegraveerd met bloemen en bladeren. Een wijzer voor de uren aanduiding een gegraveerde wekkerschijf eveneens met Romeinse cijfers. Het raderwerk van messing en ijzer heeft een loopwerk van 30 uur, balans echappement, slagwerk met sluitschijf en wekker.De klok is vakkundig teruggebouwd naar balanswiel.
